A COIN collector shared how a quarter they discovered was actually worth $5,000 at auction.
The collector revealed they had a rare silver quarter and told viewers the features they needed to look out for to spot valuable coins.
Bowers Coins (@thebowerscoinshow) shared a video of a seemingly standard-looking eagle-back quarter coin.
The video revealed which aspects made it rare and so valuable.
“You want to make sure the year is 1965,” the video said.
“Now look at the rim of the coin, to be valuable you want it to look like the one on the left,” they added.
The rim of the rare coin was fully silver and not discolored like the other coin the video showed.
Viewers were also told the coin must weigh around 6.2 grams.
This step indicates that the coin is genuinely made of silver and not another metal.
Bowers Coins revealed that a coin with all these special features sold at auction for $5,000.
One viewer asked if their 1964 silver quarter would be worth $5,000.
“Nope just around 8$,” Bower coins said.
The coin collector also told a commenter where they could take the coin that they wanted to have checked.
“Take them to local coin shops or sell on eBay,” they wrote.
The U.S. Sun has previously reported on other rare notes and coins that are worth lots of money.
A coin and bill expert shared which serial numbers on a $20 bill people need to look out for to check if it could be worth up to $2,300.
