ASHEBORO, N.C. (WBTV/Gray News) – The body of a 7-year-old believed to be nonverbal was found by searchers days after he went missing.
Liam Alexander King was reported missing on Sept. 7 in the area of Forest Hills Drive. According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Liam’s body was found the morning of Sept. 9 in a pond near his last known location.

The sheriff’s office reported the update on their Facebook page shortly after.
“We are absolutely devastated. I wish more than anything that we had a different outcome—for Liam’s family, for our community, and for the hundreds of first responders and volunteers who poured their hearts into finding him alive,” the statement said.
The search for Liam spanned three days as sheriff’s deputies, search crews and volunteers looked for the missing boy.
“This loss is truly heartbreaking. We ask everyone to please continue to keep Liam’s family in your thoughts and prayers,” the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office also said that the investigation into Liam’s death remains active.
